The Scarlet Colored Wild Beast and Gorbachev

the insanity continues this week, with the study of the revelation book and the continued application of revelation 17 to the "anglo-american power" and the united nations.

we're on chapter 35. i think i've been assigned study duty because these obscure connections fly well over poor hubby's head.

what twigged my interest this week is reference to a "prominent leader of the former soviet union" who "joined the popes in rome" in expressing support for the un.

Ha one time I was playing with some manic panic with my brother, we decided to test it by using a patch of my hair. So for like 4 weeks I had a bright pink circle on the back of my head. My brother had the top part of his hair bleached and the bottom jet black. He was still able to give talks!! Haha everyone in my hall laughed at my hair but there were some who gave me the business. I want to say I was able to give a talk with the red patch in my hair but I can't remember.

The are I grew up in must be really liberal because spiky hair and all that jazz was acceptable. Obviously straight up Mohawks were out but they were never offended by new in vogue hair styles. I say modify something that was so 10 years ago..that way you stay ahead of the fashion curve while at the same time being out of date. JW's loving staying out of date.

What do you think of todays youth?

as many of you know, i live in a college town and therefore i'm around people much younger than me almost all day.

here's one thing i've noticed, the youth today have left the god of the bible behind.

they have been brought up in a world where information is available at a very rapid rate and have already figured out the biblical god is a fairy tale.

Haha sorry Dawg! For some reason I thought that GT was in Athens. I dated a girl who lived in Athens and was sure she said it was GT in the area guess I was confused. Unfortunately there are kids who vote for Bush and love church (not that these two are exclusive) and it's this really strange phenomenon.

JW Youths - Living "Double Lives"

i grew up around very hypocritical jw youth.

many of whom i now know at 20 were never living up to the lie they put out ... stupid me i was.

here i stand now because of it - i am sure most of you here being ex-jw's know this very familiar situation.

I was part of the rebellious youth clique that was out right bad. We also crossed paths with the double life elder's kids clique. It was always hilarious to us how revered they were in the hall. One thing I will say for them was that unless the issue was completely forced they never gave us up...of course because we had dirt on them. There was also the clique of good JW's who every despised, I always had respect for them because they were the most like us "bad kids" they did what they felt was right no matter who disliked them. That has always been kind of cool in my book even if you are a square. My hall was also a lot more liberal then it seems the majority was so it was interesting to say the least.

Talking to my brother it seems that the whole double life thing is becoming more acceptable in unspoken terms. That is it is expected and you don't really get in much trouble, just so long as you make the meetings. Guess the hemorrhaging youth is forcing their hand in this. I am seeing first hand through my brother that the religion is having to force it's self to be more liberal in local halls. Just sucks so many had to live the lie before that could happen.

I sent an email to my lawyer friend, so it should be interesting to see what he has to say about it. He is extremely cool and as a public defender has a very David vs. Goliath mentality. I almost think he would want to press the issue himself! If so it should be fun. I'll definitely let everyone know if he gets back in touch with me. He is marrying my friend in Hawaii so it may take awhile.

Yea Leolaia I agree with you more and more on this issue. Joel is pretty much grasping at straws. I am sure if the Fair Use issue was pushed they would back off. Especially if you let them know that you were not a novice at Fair Use law. Too bad everything already got fixed. I was going to email my friend whom is a public defender but I think focused his studies mainly on copyright law (as when was in college Mp3 stealing was the hot button issue). I might still ask just to see.

Will Remarrying Lead to DFing?

neither can the discarded mate remarry.. what could the local congregation do if they learned that either one of the above (faded, ex, whatever) remarries?.

*one's physical or spiritual life (usually that of the wife) is endangered; one (always the husband) refuses to provide for one's family, .... thanks,.

I must agree with anewme Old people always try to claim that "youth today" just wasn't what it used to be! Let me tell you Dawg in non-college towns there are a lot of kids my age and younger who still believe in God and vote for the likes of Bush especially here in NC. Unless your actually in and around a large liberally college (not that GT is liberal) your going to find your typical run of the mill pro Christian army fatigue wearing patriots.

Oh God, too many pressure tactics too count! My Dad almost never pressured me but my Mom always did. I think the most obvious was trying to do a family study night once a week...yea that shit lasted like maybe 3 or 4 weeks in a row at a time. We just were not good at doing "family activities" of any kind let alone a boring study.

Understood Tuesday..Leo brings up another good point. The one thing I really disagree with Joel on is this statement:

the footage has to come from a universally well-known and established source and be used to illustrate a social commentary or analysis and not be used for entertainment value or simply a means to tell or move your story forward.

I am pretty sure this wrong. It doesn't have to be universally well-known. It also can be a means to move the story forward so long as it is illustrating social commentary. I still stand that it would be legal under The De Minimis Defense that is the segment in question was so small no one would even know it where it was from and therefore wouldn't hurt the producers of Knocking. Either way Joel should just come right and say, "hey it's my film and I have a legal right to decide who can use it and who can't.". It's America and if he wants to do it he can. Just don't pretend like your trying to be even handed if your not.
